Bad things do happen

Just to keep it real, as they say, Paris is not all beauty and sensual pleasure. Bad things do happen.

I don't know the story about this poor car, but there it sat just a block from my apartment when I went out in the morning. I heard nothing in the night, no sirens, explosions, nothing. Happily, it seems the car was empty of people and animals.

Those police don't look any different than ours. I wonder if they joke about them eating croissants instead of donuts:)

Picture tells the story Ruth. Every city has its dark areas.

Rachel, the Brits have always been jealous of the French, they don't have any Engligh cusine to boast about.
French were in India, some territories were ruled by them, Like Pondicherry, Mahe' in Kerala. Goa Daman and Diu were ruled by portugese. A friend of mine took me to a french restaurent in pondicherry, I can tall you it was not a happy experience. I am used to very spicy fully cooked and fried food, not healthy though. croissants are still available there, locally made.

Rachel, they don't look like they eat croissants, but then, it's the French paradox -- all that rich food and many thin people (red wine and walking keep them healthy?).

Rauf, isn't the mixture of cultures fascinating? Yes, French food in India does sound out of place. I love the Indian food I've tried, and I'm so glad here in the States we have many cuisines to choose from. In France, all food tastes good, and I haven't figured that out quite yet. What are your favorite Indian dishes/meals/foods? I love curry and cumin, cinnamon and raisins. I imagine you have much spicier food than I'm used to.

South Indian food is very popular Ruth. Its available in any part of India, But I always prefer local food while I am traveling.

Not just spicy Ruth, pretty oily too, people now are getting conscious about it and use minimum oil.

the French restaurent in pondicherryis very old.

We have 365 days of sun here Ruth, every inch of land is fertile, water available everywhere. What more can you ask for, still India is a poor country. Because we are lazy. For those reasons India was invaded time and again. Aryans Greeks, Persians, the British, Dutch, Portugese French Chinese, Japanese perhaps more, they all left their footprints here.
India has never invaded any country, Bangladesh sought India's help to free itself from Pakistan and Indians obliged, but that was not an Invasion. Inspite of exporting wisdom and brains India would always lag behind the west because of slow pace of life, laid back attitude, in other words we are lazy and passive people. This is why we let many countries invade and rule us. Finally British left in 1947, French left soon after, The portugese left in 1966-67. Some people I know are still receiving pension from the French government.

There is another reason Ruth, If any country invades us like Iraq, there would be a few protests, for a couple of weeks. After that no one will be bothered about who is ruling us, no suicide bombings no shootings no killings, because we are so busy with our petty beliefs, fighting amoung ourselves
that we would really never care who is ruling us, and please believe me, each community, the highest cast in particular will be dying to please the invaders to win their favour. this is how the british ruled here for over 200 years.

This is fascinating, Rauf. It would be interesting to know the why and how India came to be this way. The ability to adapt is a good trait, but not if you are walked on also. It is a terrible shame that many powers have taken advantage of India's lack of aggressiveness and abused it. It is human nature, but I hate it.
